Understanding Hair Extension Types

Wefted Extensions

What is a hair extension weft? We hear you ask.Hair wefted or machine hair weft extensions refer to products which have been sewn to create the bundle of extensions.

The type of hair extension weft can determine how natural your hair extensions look when clipped in.Usually have Hand wefted or hand machine hair weft extensions. In this case, the individual strands are tied by hand to create the secure weft. The end result sits a bit closer to the head, offering less bulk than the machine wefts. Currently, hand machine hair weft extensions are only available in our PURE Collection. Hand wefted hair extensions are typically utilized as permanent extensions, although they could also be used to create temporary or clip in hair extensions.

Bulk Hair Extensions

Bulk refers to a bundle of hair with no weft. Bulk hair is used to create machine hair weft extensions but is also offered for sale to clients who wish to use the loose hair to create their own machine hair weft extensions or for braiding and Brazilian knotting techniques.

Clip in Hair Extensions

Clip in refers to a bonding technique used with individual strand Clip in hair extensions. A specialized hot tool is used to soften a prebonded keratin tip to allow it to fuse to a section of your own hair. Clip in hair extensions are considered permanent because of the long lasting result. Clip in extensions are generally removed and reinstalled every 2-3 months. There are two basic types of Clip in hair extensions: The first, and most common, uses nail tip, v-tip or flat tips to bond the strand to your hair without the use of any tubes, links, rings or clips

The second, and less common, is a shrinkable tubing technique which utilizes i-tip fusion extensions along with a heat-sensitive tube. The i-tip is inserted into the tube along with a strand of your hair. Again using a specialized hot tool, the stylist applies heat to the bonding point which softens the keratin and shrinks the tube, securing the extensions to the natural hair.

For shrinkable tubing and direct fusion hair extensions, Indique offers the Keratique Collection. Our pre-bonded strands use 100% natural keratin, not glue, ensuring a damage-free hair extension experience. Indique offers fusion hair extensions in our Keratique Collection in two types: i-Tip and v-Tip.

Clip In Hair Extensions

Not interested in permanent extensions? clip in extensions offer the versatility of permanent extensions and fusion hair extensions without the commitment. Indique carries a variety of textures and colors in the innovative, quick and easy to apply pieces in our Studio Collection. Indique offers two different types of clip in hair extensions:

The type of hair extension weft can determine how natural your hair extensions look when clipped in. The most natural looking hair extensions are those that are made from Remy human hair, as the hair that’s sewn onto the hair extension wefts are facing in the same direction for a seamless finish. Besides choosing Remy human hair over synthetic, there are a couple of different types of hair extension wefts you should know about before choosing hair extensions that are right for you.

MACHINE HAIR WEFT

The clip in hair extensions stocked at Dirty Looks all are machine machine hair weft. This means that the hair is sewn together by machine to create a tracking effect and the clips are sewn on after. Machine machine hair weft is the most common machine hair weft to use, especially for clip in hair extensions. It allows the hair to be sewn together, facing the same direction, and can create the most natural-looking results with your hair extensions. It’s also the highest quality of wefts and the most versatile, as you can trim and style the hair to blend in with your natural locks, without tampering the condition of the wefts.

SKIN HAIR WEFT

SKin machine hair weft is a new hair extension weft that’s on the market. The hair is attached together by a polyurethane tape that looks like skin. These hair extension wefts need to be installed with a special adhesive tape, however, they don’t last that long- a week at least.

HAND TIED HAIR WEFT

Hand tied machine hair weft is hair that’s woven into a few strands of fishing line. Although this type of hair extension weft is much thinner than machine machine hair weft, it is the most expensive and it can’t be cut either.

WHAT IS A HAIR WEFT EXTENSION THICKNESS?

There are different types of hair extension wefts that provide different amounts of hair and thickness. A single weft means that there is only one line of hair sewn onto one mesh, whilst double wefted hair extensions means that there are two single wefts sewn together on one mesh of hair. Meanwhile, a triple weft and quad weft, which are our Super Remy hair extensions, have triple or quadruple the amount of hair sewn onto one mesh.
